Webbed Filipina: The (Mis)Representations of the Filipino Woman Online
This study aims to explore literature currently found in Filipino weblogs, e-zines and websites in order to see the image of the Filipina online and contrast it with the misconstrued identity of the Filipina based only on search engine results which strongly define the Filipina as mail order brides, “penpals,” and sexual objects―simpy put, commodities.
In this study, it is not only that foregrounding of the identity of the Filipina that is touched upon but also the uses of the Internet and the literature within it to strengthen our sense of feminism and in a much larger sense, the nationalism within the Filipino blogging community―a community that is not limited by the local space provided by the country but also inclusive of those who are based abroad.
